Yuba County Taxables in 1852
Information copied by Trenna Buchter. Retranscribed and formatted by Rosemary Tonjes. Oct. 2003
S.C. Tompkins received a letter September 3, 1851, from the newly elected first County Clerk of Yuba County, California, Mr. E.D. Wheeler, telling Mr. Tompkins that he had won the election for the position of the first County Assessor of Yuba County. This letter is pasted in a leather covered book which was probably carried horse back up and down the trails searching out the taxable property in Yuba County for 1852.
(The assessor listed the following in this book. It has been put in alphabetical order to make it easier to find the names. In some cases only the name is given with no additional information)
