SUTTER COUNTY CEMETERIES
Yuba City Cemetery
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Submitted by Francis Coats, February 2008
This first is the Reed map from 1954. The is the best single
map, as it brings together the original survey of the cemetery into 20' by 20'
lots together with the later subdivisions of the north, west, central (south of
blocks 1 and 2, north of blocks 3 and 5), and southern (north of block 4, south
of block 3) subdivisions.
Its weaknesses are:
First, it gets a lot of names wrong. For example, Block 2 lot
10 is the George Franklin Starr plot. On the stone are the following: Edward
Butler and Charlotte Butler (parents of Frank's wife, Emily Jane (Jenny) Butler,
then married to Starr, and after his death married to A. D. Cutts); Augustus
Abraham Starr, Orange Eugene Starr, Harriet Starr (children of G.F. and E.J.),
and George Franklin Starr. The map does not mention the Butler's and calls
Harry 'Mary.'
Second weakness is that the lots in the north part of block 1 are shifted south of where they are on the ground by about ten feet.
Third, several lots which can be found in the deed records are not included.
Fourth, it mis-numbers the lots in the west drive. What appears as '1' is '1'
of the east /west driveway, not of the west driveway. The lot numbered '2' is
really '1', and the rest of the lots are crammed into give the right number of
lots.
