James H. Hanson, a single man and a horticulturist came here in 1850 and with a friend, R.M. Johnson, built a store and hotel and developed the ranch as a show place. The area soon became known as Hansonville, and Hanson became postmaster in 1856. In 1892 the town became known as Rackerby.
About 1853, a Eliza Curry Robinson and husband John and two children, John and Catherine, crossed the plains to settle at Hansonville with her Aunt and Uncle, the Bradleys. John Robinson the husband, either died on the way or soon after arriving. Eliza finding herself a widow soon married James Hanson in 1855 and they had four children, Richard and James and the two babies on the headstone.
