Forbestown Cemetery
Forbestown is very close to the boundary between Butte and Yuba Counties, and was founded in September 1850 by B. F. Forbes. This historical cemetery is located behind the old Masonic Hall in Forbestown. The cemetery was sponsored by the Masonic Lodge, who built their hall in 1855. The first burial is an unknown person in 1848.
Take Hwy 20 from Marysville toward Nevada City/Grass Valley. Turn left on Marysville Road. After 11.5 miles the road becomes Willow Glen Road, continue straight. Go 10.7 miles to Challenge Cut Off Road and turn left (after going through Brownsville). Then go 3.5 miles to Old Forbestown Road and turn right. (There is a store directly across the intersection to the left on the corner.) Continue 0.6 miles and park across from the Masonic Hall. Walk across the street and to the left of the Masonic Hall, following the dirt path to the end. This cemetery is overgrown and not cared for on a regular basis.
