In Marysville Cal. ranching in C St with C Sheppard. G. Crowell and J. T. Bowen. In a small Hous belonging to us. Went a gunning in the morning. Rained some in the morning
Tuesday, January 2
Pleasant weather today blowing and raining quite hard this evening. Not at work now. Making preparations to go a gunning tomorrow with a large party. Called to see Mr. Toller with McClinthen in evening
Wednesday, January 3
Weather unfavourable did not go gunning today on that gunning excurtion. Went out by the grave yard gunning in the morning. Not at work now. Red a letter from Bro. James
Thursday, January 4
The weather quite pleasant today. Ten of us started with 2 wagons out by the Toales gunning got there about sun down. Pased through the Butes montaine very pretty farms
Friday, January 5
Very pleasant day in camp about 20 miles from Marysville. We all shoot about as much game as we could eat. Sleep in a small camp on the ground very cold nights.
Saturday, January 6
The weather continues quite pleasant. Started home about 11 o’clock. We all enjoyed our selves very well did not get much game got home about sun down.
Sunday, January 7
The weather pleasant. Mr. Dryden preached in the morning and Mr. Wallsworth(?) in the evening. Sunday School at 2 o’clock. Text in the evening Ephesians 5.15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools but wise.

Cloudy in the morning but did not rain. Josiah Bowen and I went to gunning got 2 or 3 ducks got back about 2 o’clock. Mr. Rymeares promised me work in a week or so.

Pleasant day nothing to do Psa. 115, 1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way who walk in the way of the Lord. 2 Blessed are they that keep his testimony and seek him with the whole heart.

The weather continues quite pleasant. Smith D. Lowders & John and I went a gunning.
Friday, January 12
No change in weather. In the afternoon I wrote a letter to Bro. James and sent my 2 travling cards home to have them remade for another year.
Saturday, January 13
Went to San Francisco with Smith and D. Lowders they going down to go home in the S Ship Lonora got down about 2 o’clock went to Sacrmento in the Enterprise then took the yueven(?) City for L. F. We stoped at Isaac Williams Temterance House
Sunday, January 14
Very pretty day in San Francisco walked about town for a while then went to Church in Washington St. Baptist Church Text The Lord’s Prayer in the afternoon. In the evening heard Mr. Taylor preach. Smith, [--] & Dr. went also.
Monday, January 15
Find a good many improvements made in San Francisco since last spring. Built several large churches Catholic Church & Jew Sinegouge among the number. The Custom house now underway. At 4 o; clock I started for Marysville.
Tuesday, January 16
got up to Sacramento about 4 this morning. Went to see Mr. Armor at 7 o’clock started for Marysville in the Gov. Dean got up all safe to Marysville about 4 o’clock.
Wednesday, January 17
Rec. a letter from Bro. James with the account of cusin Sarah [---] death. The weather so very foggy in this place and all through the valley the weather is clear in the mountains at San Francisco. I was on a juror this evening on a right of Property.
Thursday, January 18
The weather continues foggy. Not doing very much now feel very much in want of something to do to pass away time. In the evening went to prayer meeting.
Friday, January 19
The sun came out about the middle of today and the fog dispersed. Saw a large grizley bear today. They are Building a bear garden here to have a fight in about a week.

Very pleasant day. Had the pleasure of taking supper with Mr. Pain on venison.
Sunday, January 21
Weather very pleasant at Sunday School and Church all day. In the evening McClinthen and I called to see Mr. Tolles
Monday, January 22
Commenced work this morning for Mr. Rymeares on First St. on a row of houses running from High to D. St. Building them about 4 feet higher. Press brick fronts Jim is helping me.

Weather continues very pleasant worked all day. Had a Bull fight in this place today.

The weather continues quite pleasant and very dry. The miners complaining very much on account of no rain. Worked all day.

Mr. Armor came up to Marysville this afternoon on a visit. Worked all day. Loaned Mr. Armor 20$.

The weather continues mild and pleasant. Worked all day. Report of the explosion of the Pearl this evening. In the evening went to the Division ellected A. Schribe.

The weather continues quite pleasant. Worked all day. Mailed two Papers to Balto for Jacob and one for James. Loaned Mr. Armor 20$

The weather cloudy and rained a little but not enough to stop me from work. Josiah and I went gunning by moon light, got 2 ducks. I got 2 ducks by the cabbin.

The weather is again quite pleasant. Worked all day.

The weather continues pleasant worked all day. Let my Watch fall and broke it considerable in the evening went to the Division.

Very dry pleasant and warm day at school and Church all day had a very good prayer meeting in the afternoon.

The weather continues pleasant worked all day. In the evening Mr. Robinson took me to the ( space left blank) and was Initiated a member.

The weather pleasant a little cloudy Josiah is getting ready to go to the mines. Mr. McClinthen starts for New York in the morning.

Weather continues pleasant Worked all day. Mr. Dide called to see me at the Building. Wrote to Andrew Slicer in San Francisco in the evening. Threatening rain.

Rained most all day. Did not work today. With Mr.Dideur all day stayed with me all night. Josiah Bowen started yesterday for the Prarie diggens

The weather a little cloudy but no rain Worked all day. Mr. Dideur started for San Francisco. In the evening went to the meeting nomination night for delegates to con.

In the morning quite cold commenced raining about 12 o’clock rained on and off untill night. Josiah came in from the mines with D. White. White stayed with us all night.

Very pleasant day before church time I walked out in the Prarie very much pleased to see the grass, flowers growing and the cattle feeding.

Worked all day. The weather continues dry for this season of the year in California. Makes it very bad for the miners as they depend on the rainy season for a supply of water for the year.

Today is more pleasant not so windy as yesterday but quite cold in the morning Worked all day. Mr. Sheppard started for the mines this morning.

Weather pleasant Finished Mr. Rimears job on First St. at noon and went to work for Thomas Seward in the afternoon in High St. Press Brick work.

Rained most all day. Page Bacon & Co. Adams & Co. and Wells Fargo & Co. closed houses today. Finished a letter to Jacob

Very pleasant day Worked all day. Wells Fargo & Co. resumed business today. Page Bacon & Co. and Adams & Co. are still closed. I save no money with them.

Very pleasant day. In the morning went to the Dedication of the Chapple Belonging to the Presbitarians in this place. Mr. Wallsworth preached. Text Ps. 48.11-12. No church at the Methodist church at 11 o’clock.

Rained all day. Wrote a letter to Bro. James and sent him a paper. In the evening took the second and third degree.

Cloudy and rained part of the day. Worked all day.

Rained very hard last night and again today. The rivers raised very high.

Quite pleasant today. Worked all day. Went to prayer meeting in the evening.

Raining a little this morning. Went to work about 9 o’clock. In the evening bought a pare of boots gave $4.50 for them.

Very pleasant day. In the morning went to the Methodist Church at 2 to the Sunday School and then walked out to the burying ground. Evening went to the Presbyterian Church.
Monday, March 5
Very wet day the election day for Mayor, Marshall & Alderman & School Commissioners. Messers Jas. Allen Mayor, Anderson Marshall and all the rest on the same ticket was elected. (my choice)

Continues to rain the river is raising very fast.

Very little rain today but the river keeps rising into the stores on First St. about 3 feet below high water mark. The large Steam Boats come up

Very pleasant today. The river is high yet. Worked all day in the evening went to prayer meeting. Saw Mr. Chittenden today.

The weather pleasant. The Temple of Honor turned out today in the evening, a Bible was presented to them by the Daughters of Temperance at the Methodist Church by a very large house.

Very pleasant day. Mr. Daniels preached today, at Sunday School in the afternoon. Prayer meeting in the afternoon at 3 o’clock

Rained most all day. Worked awhile in the morning

Rained part of today. It is now good weather for the miners plenty of water.
Wednesday, March 14
Rained most all day. Our Cornice fell off last night and broak all the scaffold(?) down it was owing to not being filled up on the inside. We commenced to fit it on.
Thursday, March 15
The weather clear but unpleasant on account of the wind blowing. Worked all day at the cornice we are not charging anything for our time.
Friday, March 16
Today has been fare pleasant than yesterday. Worked all day. Mr. Sheppard came back from the mines did not do much there.

Very pleasant day worked ½ day and finished our front on the Plaza, High St. Walked about the rest of the day.

The weather continues pleasant. Nothing to do at present but my prospects are good. Today the election for City Officers came off.

The weather continues pleasant. Walked about all day. In the evening 4 of us started a prayer meeting in the Pastors study at the M. E. Church. Present Burlingame, Griffith, Warren and I

Very pleasant day. Worked all day for Mr. Fall at his residence reparing his front steps.

Weather continues very pleasant. Received a letter from B. Shakspear from Rough and Ready and answered it. Walked out by Mr. Falls in the afternoon.
Friday, March 23
No change in the weather. Had a Lot 40 by 40 feet on B St. offered to me for $450 but declined taking it. Mr. Sheppard and I walked out to the Middle Fury
Saturday, March 24
The weather continues very pleasant. Mr. Sheppard and I made a back door to our house. In the evening went to the Division some effort made to resusitate the Division. Some in favor of adjourning sign a die a motion was made to meet next Saturday evening.

Very pleasant day. Attended as usual to Church and Sunday School Rev. Mr. Richardson delivered a temperance sermon in the afternoon

The weather continues very pleasant the climate in California at this season of the year as well as the fall and winter months far exceeds the climate in most if not all of the Atlantic states

Wrote to C. H. Slicer and sent him a paper. Rec a letter from Mr. Armor through the hands of Mr. Cameron from San Francisco. Went to the young mens prayer meeting in the evening had a good meeting

Very pleasant day. Not doing anything now but my prospects are very good for work Mr. Pain offered to give me charge of all his work this summer.

Weather continues pleasant. Reading in Josephus most all the forenoon. In the afternoon went out to Mr. Pains woodcutting with the team after wood. Bought a Mansinieta cane home with me in the evening went to prayer meeting
Friday, March 30
Very wet rainy day. The Atlantic mail in but I am again sadly disappointed for not getting any letter from home. Began to rase Mr. Fall and Co. store today. Wrote to Bro. Armor in San Francisco

Rained very hard all night it is still raining blowing quite hard. We discontinued our meeting at the Division this evening. Loaned J. Tolles $5.00

Rained a little today very muddy walking. Mr. Dryden being absent today we had no meeting at his Church. Attended the Prysbitarian Church. The Lord’s Super was administered after preaching in the morning.

Very pleasant today. Supervisors were elected for the county ( Yuba ) in the evening saw James Allen the Mayor Elect sworn in office with the city councle and marshal

Threatening rain this morning began about 10 o’clock. In the afternoon had quite a storm rained and thundered quite hard for a while. Was quite sick yesterday took some Pills this evening

Rained a little today, at the Presbuterian Church twice today. We had no Sunday S today the Pastor was absent all day. In the afternoon Mr. Mathews and I walked out to the grave yard.

Very pleasant today. Worked all day. Down town all the evening bought a trowen and a 2 feet rool.

Quite pleasant today. At work as foreman for Mr. Pain. Working 7 bricklayers C. W. Sheppard, Smith, B. F. Shakespear, Samuel P. Kent, James Moor and D. White

Quite warm today. Worked all day. Bought a pair boots and a pair of shoes and two shorts for $7.50 and 25 stamps for $1.00

Very pleasant day. Went to the Presbitarian Church today no preaching at the Methodist Church. In the afternoon Mathews and I walked out in the country a mile or so.

Quite pleasant weather . Worked all day. Wrote to D. Lowders in Cincinnati and to Bro. Jacob I sent him 2 papers and Bro. James a paper. Commenced today to take my dinner at the Oriental Hotell

Weather continues pleasant. Worked all day had to stop all the hands this morning on account of the [--] sills not being ready. All went to work in the afternoon

Very warm all day all worked today. A small fire broke out about 6 o’lock on First St. extended.

Very hot today.2 of the men gave out this afternoon on account of the heat thermometer stood in the shade 106. I felt the heat very much thought I would have to give out.

Just about as hot today as yesterday. 2 men gave out today I felt very weak in the afternoon but stood it out. Sat the first iron colume today on the U. S. Hotell

Quite pleasant today. had a new preacher today Mr. Briggs from San Francisco in place of Mr. Driden. Mr. Taylor preached twice once at Mary’s corner and evening at the church. Had a very good day

The weather continues mild and more pleasant. Worked all day putting in the arches in Mr. Ramears Houses on First St. Promised to give $15 per year to the Methodist Church.

Quite warm today my hand is quite sore today cannot work. We are not very busy for a day or so waiting for brick. Commenced a House on D. St. making morter etc

Very pleasant today. The Rev. Mr. Briggs delivered a Temperance speech in frount of Mr. Murrys Hotel very able speach. A large duchman got up to speak in opposition but was laughed down.

The weather is very pleasant. Worked all day. Bought a lot on C St between 6 and 7 from Mr. Swezey for $250 Dollars. Settled the note that Seward and Robinson oad ( owed ) me.

Summer weather. Walled up a little grave out at the Grave yard for Mr. Mark Brumagin had to work to get it done in time. Mr. L. Pain promissed to give me $10 per day for this summer as Fourman.

Very pleasant day at Church and s. School. Walked out to the grave yard in the afternoon with Warren and Mathews. A large fire broke out this morning a stable and 4 or 5 Houses burnt.

The weather was very hot today. Worked all day on a job we started on D. St. close to the Empire block. Evening listened to a Temperance speech at Murry’s corner. Mr. Ellis gave me an order on Hudson for $60 worth of lumber.

The weather continues quite warm. Worked all day. Evening went to the young mens prayer meeting only 7 present this evening but we had a very good meeting.

Weather continues quite pleasant. Commenced some work for Mrs. Lawyer Buchanan in the grave yard at the grave of her husband and child. Mr. Buchanan died last Spring in this place (Marysville)

The weather pleasant. Worked all day out to the Graveyard. We found a little child buried in a segar box on the grave that we were at work on.

Very pleasant day. We sepperated out lots between us today on the corner of 7th and D. St. 80 feet on D. running back to High St. I ran the corner lot up to $766 and Mr. Lowery bid 25 more and got it. I then took the next 40 feet on D. st which [--] me $4. The full lot cost $2000.

The nights are quite cold but warm in the middle of the day. I was chosen on the committee on the investigation on the Court House by Mr Bouckious to investigate the brick work.

No change in the weather. The committee met and reported favourable after some considerable debate on Mr. Millers part. Had my deed drawn up today for my lot on D close to 7th St. bought from Mr. Parks paid $491.62.

The weather cold. Worked all day. Monday I went to a show and saw a buffellow and a sea Lion. Evening went to the firemens meeting.

it has the appearance of rain today the sun has a large circle around it. Bought a watch tonight from Mr. Ball for $150 dollars.

Very pleasant day, at Sunday School and Church all day. We went out with tracts in the evening Bros. Cross, Mathews, Warren, Cregger and I.

The weather pleasant but windy. Worked all day. We are now at work on two Houses on part of the lot that three of us bought a short time since. 1 House is for Pain.

Pleasant weather but the nights are cool. Plenty of work to do. In the evening went to prayer meeting good meeting.

The weather continues about the same. It has the appearance of rain. I was with Mr. C. Right this evening. Worked all day. Mr. C. Right is an acquaintance of Bro. James.

Part of today was very cold and foggy. Today is thanksgivings day but I had to work all day. In the evening I went to hear Mr. Briggs preach.

It rained a little this afternoon had to quit work. A front fell out on E. St. this evening that Pinkum is putting sats. I received a letter from Bro. Jacob and from sister Eliza.

Weather continues cool. We toped out Mr. Pains two Houses on 7th St. this evening. We fitted up the room at the Methodist Church to meeting for prayer the young men.

The weather was quite cool today, at church and s. school. We are out of tracts and did not go out this evening. Wrote to sister Eliza.

Very pleasant day. Worked all day. Built a little seller out D. St. for Mr. Shannan. With Mr. Pain all the evening.

It rained considerable today. Started a House for Mr. Hudson on Cortes Sq. Evening bought a season ticket to attend a course of lectures this evening Dr. Lehrot(?) of San Francisco lectured. After he was through marred Mr. C. Rendles to Miss Faney Farrish.

The weather cold and cloudy. Worked all day.

Rained most all day. Settled up with Rimears the balance of $244.00. Paid for my Watch $150 dollars. Gave $30 toward the Parsonage and $5 to help furnish it. & $15 to the Pastor.

Very pleasant today, at S. School and church. In the evening we walked down to Fether river.

Very unpleasant today. Snowed and rained all day. No work today.

The afternoon of today was quite pleasant. We measured Mr. Rimears building on First St. next to Treadwells.
Friday, December 28
The weather has been quite cold all day too cold to work. The evening I went to the Sunday School’s Teacher’s Society 11 of us present. We passed our constitution and elected our officers. I am one of 4 of the missionarys.
Saturday, December 29
The after part of today was quite pleasant but it was very cold last night. The ice was about an inch thick. B. Smith and I agunning today. We did not work any this week owing to it being too cold.
Sunday, December 30
Too cold to work the ponds are all froze over with ice about ¼ inch thick. Too cold to work. The weather is quite cold yet. At church and S. School all day. Selected 5000 tracts for distribution.

The weather continues quite cold. We worked ½ day today on Mr. Hudsons house. Went to watch night meeting had very good meeting. Called to see Mr. Tolles.
